This week I travelled to Ft. Lauderdale on Business to attend a HCA event. We discussed with key HCA folks, general contractors, mechanical and electric teams how to improve the construction process for the Florida market as it applies only to their hospitals. HCA wants to get to the markets faster with lower cost. Two thirds of their Capex construction spend in 2018 with be in Texas and Florida. They standardize several products, prefab some items to get the cost lower thus streamlining their efforts for faster results. It gave me a great opportunity to understand their goals and where to be position my account strategy to manage the account better. The breakout sessions were open collaborative between competitors. Very unusual and have never seen this level of sharing for over 35 years. It appears HCA has picked good partners and they believe in the joint goals for success. After a short business meeting on Thursday, I drove near South Beach and see some sites in the area. I was amazed to see most conversations were in Spanish and not English… I need to brush up on my Spanish for sure.
Great business trip and productive now I need to leverage what I have learned to make it stick.
Peace be with you.
